 Highfields Amateur Radio Club News.

Now Back Open!

Hello everyone,

Its great to be back after our enforced closure,
would love to see you at the usual venue and usual times.

Best 73.

For the attention of all Highfields ARC members.
You are probably all very aware of the developing medical situation regarding the COVID 19 virus and the declared global pandemic status. Considering the demographics of the Club membership and the medical status of individuals with the implications that infection would bring, and following consultation with the membership in attendance at the club on 10th March, the Committee members have decided the prudent course of action will be to suspend normal Club meetings for a provisional period of three weeks, ie to March 31st inclusive. At this point the Committee will re-assess the situation and either resume normal activities or extend the suspension on a “rolling basis” according to received medical advice. Members will be informed by email accordingly.
The Committee appreciates that this will cause inconvenience, however as our membership leans towards the older age groups (with associated medical problems) who are more vulnerable this course of action is considered prudent and appropriate for their protection.
Please note that regular “skeds” take place on the GB3WB repeater at 21:30 – 22:00 most days with Club members taking part – and contactable – and information regarding the Club meetings will probably be available or discussed. Also please note that the Recreation Club is still open and will welcome your custom in the mean time (ie the bar and facilities are still open unless otherwise specified).
Training activities can still be arranged outside of the suspended meetings if required and considered safe to do so for those concerned.
I Robinson, GW1AWH
Hon Club Secretary.

Nice example of new multi-channel HF antenna in Alan Jones garden.  Should get good results with that!

Note the ground radials.

October 2018:

Members of the Club continue to be active using Satellite coms:

“Been sitting up the garden testing the new loop I Made for the wonder loop. Couple of contacts. Mutch stronger signal on the new loop. To be expected new loop has more surface area”.

Now have two microHubs one for the house and one for the car. cracking bits of kit. Can be controlled by DTMF from your radio or from your phone by Wi-Fi on your phone or Tab when mobile.
All-Star network or Echo-link. even connects to the win or wan system. The hub with the external antenna socket. can be used on your mag mount to give you control of the hub when parked and walking with your handy.
Hubs made by Peter G7RPG. Hub runs on 12v and a minimum of 2amps dc.
I am running mine from 12v alarm battery in the boot of the car.
thinking of making a 12v 12amp Wi-Fi switch to switch on and off remotely.
